The holidays are over and a new year is now upon us. You’ve probably just said goodbyes to friends and family you traveled to see for the holidays or hosted at your home.
I’m willing to bet that your house is now full of post-holiday clutter. Ugh. Here are some tips to help you declutter.
Decluttering Christmas Decorations
Did you have to dig through boxes for a LONG time this year to find your good decorations? That means you probably have too many.
While you’re taking down ornaments it’s a good time to sort and toss the rarely used holiday items you no longer need. It may not be fun, but I promise you’ll feel better after it’s done–and you’ll be pleasantly surprised come December when it’s time to pull everything out to decorate again (ask me how I know).
Walmart, Target, and Amazon sell wonderful bins of all sizes to store your ornaments and Christmas decorations. Take everything out of the old containers, sort them, and put the cherished items in new bins.
Items that you can toss or donate are things like:
- Items you have multiples of
- broken ornaments and decorations
- damaged wrapping paper, bows, gift tags, etc.
- Decorations that you don’t use anymore
Home Decluttering
Now that you’ve got all those decorations neatly put away, it’s time to take inventory to see what other things you no longer use. For example, you can get rid of your old computer to make space for that shiny new one you got from Santa!
And you know all those Amazon boxes you have piled up in the house from all the shopping you did? Those will come in handy now because you can take all the items you want to trash or donate and put them in those boxes.
